A great deal of rain or melt water can enter your septic tank through a chipped or missing corner of the septic tank lid.
Extra water entering the tank can overburden the system causing it to fail and pollute. Install risers on your tank to prevent surface water infiltration, and it will be easier finding the tank lids at pump out time.
